Art Award

Ahead of our lesson on Tuesday, each child needs an item that they could draw. This was an activity was supposed to be done at the start of term but there are a number of children with no resources. Over the weekend the following children need to collect an item they can draw and bring it in on Monday. This could be a leaf, feather, twig, shell, flower, pine cone etc.

Art Award Session 4

Today we had session 4 of our Art Award and it was all about collages today. Jen and Sadie talked through the technique to collage making and we had some inspiration from various different artists.

We had pages from different magazines to look through to decide on what we wanted our collage to look like. We only have a small area for the collage to be inside so we  had to cut bits to size. We also had to think about scale, as perhaps we may have wanted to cut out a whole dog but actually it wouldn’t fit within the area we had so we had to make adjustments to the picture.

We can layer up to create a bit of texture or we can have individual images stuck in places. They look really effective.

Short but Busy Week

It has been a short week in school but it has been a busy one.

We have started looking at multiplying amounts of money by 2 and 5. We have used the strategies we already know to help us. We will be continuing with this with bigger amounts of money and also looking at sharing (dividing) money too.

We have been using our novels in our groups to work on reading strategies, each group  has had the chance to read aloud this week which we definitely still love doing. This should also be encouraged at home too. We have been working on literal and inferential questions, prediction, synonyms and imperative verbs (bossy verbs).

We have started a personal reading record in school and we are tracking the books that we are reading, as reading for enjoyment is something that is so important to help us develop our literacy skills. Children should have their reader at home and in school so that they are consciously making time to read.

We have finished our street art pictures which look really good. We had a debate as to whether we think this is vandalism or art. We had a lots of great reasons for both and we came to the conclusion that as long as it enhances something and it makes it look better we think it is art.

We have completed Part B of our log book for our Art Award and we have started to make a start on our mini books that we are creating. We started with abstract art that was inspired by the outdoors. I love how unique they all looked.

Thank you to all those who are consistently practising their tables. I can see a marked improvement. A little often goes a long way.

Another great week has been had, looking forward to Monday for another busy learning week.

SHaRE in Primary 5

This term we will be delivering the Sexual Health and Relationships aspect of our Health and Wellbeing programme.  All Learning Experiences and Success Criteria have been taken from The Highland Council Sexual Health Framework.

By the end of the course of lessons children should be able to:

  • Identify and use the correct anatomical names for the parts of the male and female body.

  • Talk about their body and understand their body is private to them.

  • Identify the changes which take place in both boys and girls during puberty, including menstruation.

  • Describe the human life cycle.

  • Sequence the key events in the process of human fertilisation and embryonic development to the point of birth.

  • Demonstrate understanding in diversity in sexuality and gender identity.

If you have any questions about the content of the lessons please contact the school office by email and these will be forwarded to the class teacher. We will be commencing this topic on the week beginning 10th May.

Times Tables

Tomorrow, the children will come home with a times table record practise sheet.

It will detail the table they are currently working on, I ask that at home you can sign and date and add a traffic light colour of how well they are getting on with the table (it is detailed on the sheet).

We talked at length today about how important our tables are for so many aspects of our life. All it takes is 10/15 minutes a day and they will improve so quickly. Walking home/ dinner table/ in the shower. Any spare time- practise, practise, practise.

The records need to come to school daily. As I will be also recording how they are progressing too.

I appreciate your support with this as there needs to be more practise done out with the classroom for this one.

Thank you!

Wonderful Wednesday

We have had a great start to the term so far, it has been busy and the weather has been on our side for the most of it, which makes things just that little bit better.

We started the week with thinking about what we got up to in the holidays and organised our thoughts under different headings in preparation for writing an E-mail to a class mate. Today we started our E-mails, we talked about what we need to do to begin our email and then how to structure and write an E-mail when it is to someone we know.

We are looking forward to receiving the E-mails and replying to them.

We also had some fun outside in the sun today 🙂

We finished Code Name Bananas this morning and we will be writing a review of the book at the end of the week before we get back into our groups and reading activities with our assigned novels.

A reminder that all spelling words are on Spelling Shed and should be practised at home when not in school.

This term our focus will be on the four operations (multiplication, division, addition and subtraction) using the context of money. We did a little ‘What do we already know’ about money this morning and seems like we need to familiarise ourselves with coins and notes before we begin with other learning.

Here are some games that can be played at home to do so.

Times tables should also be ongoing practise at home, whether it is saying it out loud or practising using one of the websites. This will help massively when working with money.

Looking forward to a great final term!

Welcome Back!

I hope we all had a great Easter break, going by our chats and sharing this morning. It sounds like it was a great one had by all.

Here are some pictures of our last few weeks in school before Easter. Jannyland is a huge hit with our class. Our cars we created were fabulous, thank you to all those who created one and presented it to the class. (I never got pictures of them all…)

Looking forward to a fun filled final term of P5. Can you believe it is coming to that time?

This term, P5R and P5F have been chosen to take part in Arts Award Discover with Inverness Creative Academy which is an introductory award certificated by Trinity College London. The course will be delivered virtually by artists Jen Smith and Sadie Stoddart every Tuesday during class time starting on 20th April. At the end of the 8 week block, we hope to hold an online exhibition where parents and carers can view the we have created.

Before the course starts and we get going with our art, the artists have asked if pupils can please collect items from your walks over the next week – shells, feathers, leaves etc. It would be a good idea to take a tupperware out on your walks and you can press flowers in heavy books so they keep, then bring their finds into school on Monday 26th April. Ready for Tuesday.

A reminder of water bottles, silent readers and indoor shoes needed for daily use in the classroom. PE will continue on a Wednesday this term so come dressed in clothes and be prepared for colder/wet days too.

Successful First Week!

Wow, what a great first week back we have had together. The energy has been amazing. I have really enjoyed having us all together again.

It has been a week filled with chat, reflection, sunshine, fun, creativity, down time and lots of hard work!

I am proud of how well we have slotted back into life in the classroom, routines, expectations and a dedication to work.

Here are some pictures of us learning to use a protractor (lots of fun) and Kandinsky inspired art with Miss Murray.

It has been a fabulous one, looking forward to next week already. We are such a great class and they bring me so much joy!

Just a reminder about water bottles, indoor shoes and to wear PE kit on a Wednesday 🙂
